Our Visit

The Boat House at Thompson’s Park

We love Thompsons park! There’s so much to see and do here. We had a lovely sunny trip on Saturday, (May 2023), where we visited the park, went to the Boat House for ice cream, hired a boat on the lake, went on the mini railway and had a picnic

The Boat House is a fabulous edition, ran by Burnley Leisure. It has lots of different ice creams, snacks, hot and cold drinks (Milkshakes, fizzy, tea, still drinks) and has benches right next to the lake.

The boats are open from 11am, we got there as they opened and went straight onto a boat with no waiting. Its £6 for 25 minutes which felt like a good amount of time. They had 4 or 6 seater boats available. Children have to wear life jackets and the staff help you in and out of the boats. You paddle yourself, we found the easiest way to co-ordinate was for us to be at opposite ends and have a paddle each. It was lovely weather for it and very scenic

Lots of benches to sit on around the park, for anyone who wants to relax. They have toilets for anyone to use

The parks always a hit with our boys, with swings, slides, climbing frame and of course the sand pit , they love to have a play on there. It does get busier as the day goes on, so we usually get there for 10am

The mini railway ran from 12pm and was £2 for a child, £1 per adult or £5 for a family of 4 – CASH ONLY. It was a really nice little ride, it went faster than we expected haha

There’s lots to see and do, with a lovely walk around the boating lake. and through the gardens. My parents have spotted a Kingfisher here in the past, but we haven’t spotted it yet.

There’s also the paddling pool which is open until the end of September
