Our Visit

The boys and 16 of their friends visited Brierfield Children’s Community Allotments, for an afterschool trip (June 2023) and it was amazing! It gave forest school vibes. We had exclusive hire and the provision was just fantastic

As we arrived, they have several volunteers, Wendy, Andrea, Ian and the team had set up crafting tables, an area to paint leaves and take your own tile away. They even made their own bee keyrings!

The campfire area is brilliant. The staff cooked them hotdogs, before the children all roasted marshmallows on the fire. Some made smores, which went down a treat.

Chris Husband, author of “My Magical Bearded Friend” and “Good Morning Mr Magpie” came to say hello and read to the children. Our boys were thrilled with the books they got to bring home, so thankyou very much!

There was a lovely volunteer educating the children all about the bees, bringing in replica bees, allowing them to try on different bee outfits and learn about the hive and the bee’s role.

You can plant your own seeds, dig in the digging area, learn as much or as little as you want whilst there.

For any children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, this is a fantastic place to visit. The mud kitchen was great, with lots of variety for them to play. Its quiet, peaceful and it’s child led. They can explore the sandpit, the soil and digging, stay by the campfire and walk about as much as they like.

It’s free to use, but they do welcome donations. The boys completed a wildlife challenge and raised £92 for the allotments, which will go back into the provison and fantastic service they offer, so feel free to get in touch with them if you would like to raise money for them.

If you are a group who would like to visit, feel free to get in touch with them, or you can follow their page to see their open days to visit

We are already planning a return trip in a few months time! Thanks so much to the volunteers, who make it such a wonderful place
