Our Visit

Hardcastle Craggs, Clough Hole Carpark, Widdop Rd, Hebden Bridge HX7 7AZ

3/4 mile to mill fair steep on the way back up

Visited October 2022

The route we took is NOT pram or wheelchair friendly. Midgehole car park, Midgehole Rd, Hebden Bridge HX7 7AL is a longer walk to the mill, with the option of road walking or the path by the river (must be able to walk bit of a scramble over some of the terrain)

We spent around 4 hours there from start to finish – it was 3/4 mile to get to the mill and river

There is nothing we love more than a welly walk in the rain

Lots of wild mushrooms, birds and according to our eldest “badger dens”. We encourage him to explore, looking for wildlife, and he’s pretty good at spotting disturbed ground, holes in the ground, looking for footprints in the mud

If you visit, have a look inside Gibson Mill and the Weaving Shed, with second hand childrens books on sale for 50p, adult paperbacks for £1 hardbacks for £2

There’s a room with seating to read a book, a blackboard for children to draw what they have seen on their walk. There’s a large room with a projector which explains about hardcastle crags and their work, as well as rooms which highlights the history of the mill ✍️

They sell cold drinks and packaged items in the cafe, sausage rolls were £3.95 and a Cornish pasty £5.25

The Stepping Stones were closed due to some being lose, however we found a little spot further down to have a splash

You can walk much further if you wanted. There’s 15 miles to explore, but with 2 and 6 year olds who walked all the way it was far enough anyway
